Welcome to my butterfly photography blog! My goal is to provide you with inspiration, practical tips and knowledge about butterflies and butterfly photography.
My name is Sven and I live in Holland. As I spent Monday to Friday in the office, I try to be outside over the weekend. And my wife and I do love to travel abroad. While travelling through Vietnam in 2010 I was struck by the beauty of its butterflies and started to photograph them. This turned out to be such fun that I made it into my specialty. Unlike the tropics however, Holland does have seasons. So in winter I switch to birds and occasionally some street photography in my hometown Amsterdam. In the summer – weather and social agenda permitting – I go out for butterflies as much as possible.
As equipment I currently use a Canon 70D and EF 100/m f/2.8L Macro IS USM. Usually I rise early on windfree mornings to photograph butterflies sitting motionless in the rising sun. And then consider myself lucky as windfree days in Holland are rare!
